I believe there are many reasons NOT to vote for the HPCL slate, here are a few reasons to remember:
- January 7, 2009: The Park Cities Historic & Preservation Society executive director, Dr. Marian Ann Montgomery announced "we are delighted to report that HP Manager Bill Lindley has shared with us a proposed voluntary preservation ordinance. This is a huge indication of the importance they place on the history of our community and we look forward to working with them to see that a preservation ordinance is implemented." (Dr. Marian Ann Montgomery, January 7, 2009).
The big contradiction by town hall:
October 26, 2009: "The current council voted against preserving historic homes in Highland Park. It is quoted.... "the resolve remains, despite a Highland Park Town Council vote against a resolution favored by historic preservationists. Some saw the decision as a slap in the face to preservation-minded speakers who filled the council chambers Monday to voice their support." "Some residents said they were diappointed that the council wouldn't agree to even study the issue." (By Lori Stahl / The Dallas Morning News 10-28-2009).
"We're told that's important and we come and do it and we're shot down," said Searcy M. Ferguson III (By Lori Stahl / The Dallas Morning News 10-28-2009).
My thought is this to the voters of HP. If you want to see HP continued to be demolished of historic homes, then simply vote for the HPCL's slate of endorsements. The proof of what the current town council did and will continue to do is above. It's your choice. I was just before the town council this past Monday (4-12-10) advocating the preservation of historic HP homes.
2. March 9, 2009: I went before the current town coucil for an ordinance to have background checks conducted on approximately 50 administrative employees that work for Highland Park. I told the current town council ..."I found this
